THE WELSH GIRLUnique, reversible, practical patchwork tote; can be worn over the shoulder or carried in your hand. Each bag is handcrafted from traditional Welsh flannel (wool) and only three of a kind are made; one side is block patchwork in shades of grey, red and heritage black and grey stripe while the other side is a plain charcoal grey; sturdy natural tanned bridle leather handles; fully lined in workwear denim; interior pockets for phone and keys; solid oxidised brass hardware that’s used for making sails.
The distinctive TWG patchworks are a modern take on tradition. Welsh flannel has a long and interesting history. It dates back to the time when farmers in rural Wales were spinners and weavers too. They used the wool from their flock of sheep to produce cloth that was made into clothing, blankets, shawls and patchwork quilts for the family and local community. Later it was used for workwear in Wales, hence the stripes and checks for shirts. It was, and still is, the material used in the traditional Welsh National Costume.
